บทความนี้ แปลและเรียบเรียงจาก Design Decisions for Digital Publishing เขียนโดย Bob Bringhurst เพื่อนคนหนึ่งของ InDesign Thai

โดยในเนื้อหาทั้งหมดจะกล่าวถึงการออกแบบตามแนวทาง ของ Adobe Digital Publishing Suite ที่เป็นระบบของ Adobe ทำงานด้วยโปรแกรม Adobe InDesign CS5 ซึ่งเราจะมาดูกันว่า แนวทางการออกแบบที่เหมาะสม และสอดคล้องกับการใช้งาน ควรจะเป็นอย่างไร

เริ่มแรกเราต้องมาทำความเข้าใจเรื่อง Application ที่จะนำขึ้นเผยแพร่บน Device ต่างๆ กันก่อน ว่าจะเลือกแบบไหน เมื่อส่งแอพของคุณเข้า Apple Store หรือ Android Market แล้ว คุณจะพบว่าแมกกาซีนหรือหนังสือต่างต้องการวิธีนำเสนอในแบบฉบับของตัวเอง ซึ่งมีอยู่ 2 แบบ คือ รูปแบบสิ่งพิมพ์ที่ตีพิมพ์ครั้งเดียว เช่นสูจิบัตร แคตตาลอค และรูปแบบที่เป็นนิตยสารที่ออกเป็นรายสัปดาห์ รายปักษ์ รายเดือน ซึ่งหมายถึงสิ่งตีพิมพ์ที่ออกเป็นประจำ แนวทางการสร้างงานสำหรับสื่อสิ่งพิมพ์ที่ออกฉบับเดียวหรือออกต่อเนื่องหลาย ฉบับจะเป็นไปตามลักษณะของที่มา เช่น ถ้าคุณจะสร้างหนังสือหรือโฆษณาสักชิ้น เช่น Essential Guide to TRON ควร ใช้กระบวนการสร้างแบบออกฉบับเดียว แต่ถ้าต้องการสร้างแมกกาซีนที่มีหลายเล่มต่อเนื่อง เช่น The New Yorker ควรใช้กระบวนการสร้างแบบให้ออกได้หลายฉบับ โดยอนุญาตให้ลูกค้าดาวน์โหลดแอพที่คุณเผยแพร่จาก Adobe Server สำหรับการออกหลายฉบับ Adobe มีแผนการที่จะเก็บค่าบริการ 30 เซ็นต์ต่อการดาวน๋โหลดผ่าน เซิร์ฟเวอร์ 1 ครั้ง แต่จะไม่เก็บค่าบริการใดๆ จากประเภทที่ออกฉบับเดียว เพราะกลุ่มนี้จะดาวน์โหลดจาก Apple Store หรือ Android Market ไม่ใช่จาก Adobe Server (รายละเอียดค่าใช้จ่ายนี้เป็นค่าใช้จ่ายที่ทาง Adobe เรียกเก็บเท่านั้น ไม่นับค่าใช้จ่ายที่พึงมีจาก Apple Store และค่าใช้บริการเหล่านี้ยังไม่เป็นข้อยุติสิ้นสุด ต้องรอจนกว่าทาง Adobe จะประกาศอย่างเป็นทางการอีกครั้ง)
